Philip, I can't thank you enough for your email. Yes, I can see that I've mixed something up. I should have realized that the dates didn't match the info I have. Somewhere along the way I took a left turn instead of a right.
An Edward Joughin married Alice Stansfield. We're not sure which Edward, the one born in 1853 or the one born in 1860.
On the Ellis Island passenger list site, they are the only Edward Joughin's. In 1908, the younger was going to visit his friend, Robert Stansfield, brother of Alice. EJ's birthplace was Isle of Man Ramsey on the Manifest. He was single.
In 1921, upon arrival at Ellis Island, the elder EJ had been in the US for 9 years, and was going home to 513 Washington Street, Newark, NJ. His birth place is listed as I.O.M. Douglas, (not Andreas). He was married.
In 1920, Alice Joughin arrived at Ellis Island, and she had been in NJ since 1901. She was going home to 513 Washington Street, Newark.
Myra stated that they hadn't heard from Uncle Ned since 1919, so it doesn't make sense that this is her uncle if he had been in the US for 9 years in 1921. It must be a coincidence that their birthdays are 1853.
Last Thursday this is all I knew:
Alice Stansfield married a Joughin, lived in Newark, and they had a son, Harry 'Myron', and a daughter, Myra. Myron was in the US Army and Myra was an up and coming actress, and unfortunately died suddenly at a young age.
It was your mention of Myra that makes me think there might be some sort of family connection.
I haven't been able to find the New Jersey Joughin's on any US census. Maybe NJ hasn't been fully indexed yet.
One more thing - there is a John Cl Joughin age 24 in 1906 arriving at Ellis Island in 1906 enroute to Hong Kong. Could this be the son of William and Margaret?
My brain hurts!! I need to think about all of this further.
Once again, I thank you very much for the very interesting information you have given.
Carol
