Re: Great Grandmother
In Response To: Re: Great Grandmother ()

Thank you to Brian Kneen and Brian Lawson.
My Grandmothers name.....She was registered as Ethel Bridson-Hughes (Bridson being the clue to the Fathers name) and I have found Her on the 1901 census. Living with Her Paternal Grandmother (Bridson) at a boarding house in Gansey. I am quite sure I have identified my G. Grandfather (Bridson) My Grandmother was born in 1895 Her Mother, my G.Grandmother....
Sophia Hughes was single and a Domestic servant and gave Birth to my Grandmother (Ethel Bridson Hughes) at Gansey. Sorry for any confusion. There is more to this story which is very sad. Briefly Sophia was made to give up my Grandmother before Mr. Kneen would Marry Her (not his child) at a later time.

My Grandmother lived in solitude for the first 12 years of Her life. As you can appreciate it is a little sensitive hence my hesitation to divulge details.
I as Grandson and Great Grandson would like to find out a lot more about Sophia and who knows, maybe obtain a Photo' with any luck.
This also means a lot to other members of my Family, specifically my Uncle who is quite elderly and has been affected by His Mothers story(Ethel my Grandmother) and Sophia's story. It is also reflects the time both morally and historically.
Once again my thanks for the information so far and hope you can make sense of this.
