Thank you Frances - my husband allowed me to use his PC and I was able to access the "members only" pages. Apparently my Mac has only 5.2 Explorer which would explain why I have problems accessing the bulletin board on Explorer and have to use Safari. He will update this for me, once the taxes are done.
