The results obtained by the Crow/e DNA project are very interesting and worthwhile.
Crow/e in the US particularly has multiple origins - some are German, some English, Irish, Native American. After I tested I was assigned to the "green" group (an arbitrary group label) which consisted mostly of descendants of a Maryland settler of hitherto unknown origins of about 1680. I match some of these chaps' DNA 100% over 25 markers, despite the passage of some 300 years between my birth and that of their ancestor.
We are waiting to see if the relevant haplotype is exclusive to Isle of Man Crows or is shared with other Crows in Ireland. The genetic signature is almost identical to certain Welsh and Irish families, but not of our name.
I certainly find that Family Tree DNA has provided a good service. Whether costs will go down is problematical - the providers will do what they have to, to keep revenue growing.
Cheers
