New found ancestry leads me to the Isle of Man:
Mary COWELL b1808, sister Jane Quayle nee COWELL b1799 and brother in law John QUAYLE were charged with theft of seven yards of ribbon and lace in 1822, their trial date was 27 August 1822 at Castle Rushen. The brother in law was aquitted but Mary and Jane were sentenced to 7 years in the colonies, arriving together in NSW Australia 18 October 1823. They both later gained their freedom, married and had children all in New South Wales.
As an aside, I believe that their parents were Daniel Cowle b1761 and Elizabeth Kelley married in 1788 and they left behind many siblings in Ballagh IOM.
I am wondering if there are any documents available for Castle Rushen to support these facts which are cited in the ships passengers records for the 2 girls but do not give a source of the information.
thanks for any help offered.
