The census was taken for the night of of April 7/8.
As for marriage certificates, the names and occupations of the fathers are usually stated. Although it was/is normal practice to append "deceased" if appropriate, I don't think this was a requirement.
Consequently, it is not safe to assume a father was alive based solely on an entry on a marriage certificate.
