It is said that... Lewthwaite's folly

In Manx legend, it is said, a Mr Lewthwaite used to climb regularly to the top of this (round) tower -now derelict in East Baldwin - in order that he could be closer to God.

Question... who is the Mr Lewthwaite and what time period are we talking here?

How much truth is there in this??

Nigel, being an expert on Baldwin's history,do you know anything of this legend?

A search on your site Frances searching "Lewthwaite's folly" unfortunately drew a blank.
