Roger - It is a small world! My mother's side are all Manx, hence my membership of the IOMFHS etc, but my father's side, came from Market Lavington Wiltshire - my great-grandfather, Tom Draper, left ML/Devizes and moved to Lee in Kent, hence my family line being in Kent.
What were your family names in ML. I cannot remember all of mine, as I sit here, but a few were as follows: Draper/Merrett/Butler/Wiltshire/James/Gye/Stratton/Tyler/Aldridge/Blagdon/Adly/Hobbs.. The presiding Minister for years was one Edward Blackstone Cockayne-Frith.
Are any of these names familiar?
On the subject of stones, only the James/Gye had stones, the rest seemed to be common.
Indeed, I saw Patricia Lewthwaite of IOMFHS on Monday re the Quines, one of my branches, and one photo she has is of the wedding of Joy Quine to Arthur Pateman and at the back of the family group are my grandparents (on the Island for my mother and father's wedding) and he was born Market Lavington!
(My mother remembers a man from 'Devizes' who used to visit the Island every year - in the early twenties? Named Smith.)
