Re: William KELLY aka "Willie the Taylor"

There was a family living at 3 Duke St. Douglas in 1881 with the following details:-

William Kelly, Hatter, 32 Marown.
Louisa S. Kelly, 35 Douglas
William F. Kelly 6 England
Lucy M. Kelly 5 England.

In other directories the father was referred to as a Hatter and Hosier or Hats and Caps.

Louisa appears to be the daughter of Joseph and Nellie Crellin from Douglas and she married William in Marown in 1875.

A memorial notice 1907 in manx notebook about John Brown Kelly mentions two brothers and a sister. One brother W.Kelly, hatter, the other David and the sister Mrs Crellin surviving.

Jane Kelly married William Crellin but the other brother to William was Thomas. They were all the surviving children of Robert Kelly and Mary Brown.
Robert was living with Jane and her family in 1881 at Bucks Road Douglas.

There is a record of a Thomas with the right age marrying Christian Elizabeth Curphey 1862 in Marown and moving to a farm in Andreas called Ballawhane. Among the children is a son called David. It may have been him at the funeral.

The memorial notice had John Brown Kelly's age as 82 at death but on calculation it appears to be nearer 62.

Is this your family?
