Sorry I don't have any information for you, my Hayes family came from Bury. Have you tried the IGI, you can search for marriages on there - if you know the full name of the husband and first name of the wife and then enter them in reverse, just giving the wife's first name and the husband's full name it will give you all the possible matches, if you get two with the same reference number and then cross check in the births/christening records for any known children of the marriage, to verify that you have the right couple. I got my great great grandmother's maiden name by doing this, so it is very useful. I didn't know her husband's name when I started looking, but after getting the information from the IGI I went on 'freebmd' and found the marriage of my great grandparents (Elizabeth Jane Quayle & Richard Hayes, December 1892), I got the marriage certificate from the local registry office. They were married 17th December and this confirmed that her father's name was William Henry.
I have the 1881 IGI census on disk (name indexed) and the 1891 & 1901 Lancashire census (no name index), if you have addresses I could look for your Hayes/Tomlinson/Corkill connections.
I have found an Abraham & Jane Hayes living in Hulme, Lancashire on the 1881 census that I think are Richard Hayes parents, Richard is listed as 13 on the census, so that checks with 1891 when he is living in Barrow, there are three other children in 1881 - Harry, Reuben, and Mary Ada (I did not meet any of these people, but on the 1901 cencus Reuben Hayes is listed as a lodger at my gt/gt/ grandmother's house along with Richard and Elizabeth Jane, there family and the other lodgers. I think that Reuben must have left Barrow because I never met him or heard anything about him from my mother, but Richard & Elizabeth Jane named one of their sons Rueben so it looks like a good match, I did not know my great grandfather although my great grandmother lived until she was 91, (she died in 1956/7 the same year as two of her sons, Philip (my grandfather), and his brother Richard died, I think there was a 6 week gap between each death - I was 9 when my grandfather died).
Hayes is not a common name in this area, but I have a friend who lives in Ramsbottom and it is very common in that area.
Good luck with your search, and if I can be of any help just ask. Unfortunately I won't have much time to continue my family history search for the next few weeks, I am having visitors and will be fully occupied - I will check the message board as soon as I can.
Regards
Carol
