Post 1837 there was civil registration in England - thus an official birth cert should show details - civil registration started on the Island in 1877 - I have read that there was a custom of getting married off-Island, quite why I don't know - for the well-off an official certificate might have some value but as it appears he was poor then why pay to go to Liverpool unless his wife's family was there (many Manx and Quayle is a good manx name had settled in Liverpool post c.1760).
Have you checked the IGI (www.familysearch.org) for Liverpool records - based on 1851 Religious census 55% of Manx were Methodist, 40% C of E and 5% other - but Methodists generally married in C of E churches
