I believe my ancestors were John and Esther CORKILL who married in the Lezayre Parish (Ramsey?) on the Isle of Man in 1822. I am descended from their son, Evan, who was born in 1827. And, I believe he had 9 siblings.
Someone just told me that John's parents were John and Jane (KINREAD) CORKILL. And, they seem to have had 9 children between 1798 and 1812.
Someone just told me that a possible wife for Evan CORKILL in 1852 was Elizabeth QUAYLE.
Of the different postings on the CORKILL surname in regards to the Isle of Man, I don't remember seeing any information on which ..religion.. they were. I know the family was in the Lezayre Parish (Ramsey?) on the IOM. But, if Evan and Elizabeth went over to Liverpool, England, in 1852 to get married, which church would they have chosen to get married in?
Evan was a Mariner. And, it seems that, once in England, he always seemed to live in the poorer sections of Liverpool. In 1873 when his first wife died, they were living in West Derby. In 1876, he married again (still in West Derby). I don't know how long Mrs. Elizabeth (UPTON) CORKILL lived, but I am told that Evan probably spent his later years in Toxteth Park. (Lived into his 70's?)
And, just last week, I found a Census report on one of his daughters in Nantucket, MA, and she reported that her mother had been born in Wales. (Mrs. Elizabeth (QUAYLE) CORKILL)
Since Evan was a Mariner, I wonder whether he visited Wales often, or had family/friends there.
In 1873 when his first wife died, Evan sent his five children to live in the Liverpool Sheltering Homes. They were sent to Canada in 1874. I do not yet know whether there were other children in the family; e.g, from 1852 to 1860.
I do not yet know the maiden name of the wife of John CORKILL (the son). (Esther ____)
