Simply incorrect - even the vicar writes: Though the name of the Chapel does not appear in records until 1577 there is little doubt a chapel existed on the site and indeed there was a Church on the site in the Scandinavian period about the 11th Century.

I'm afraid not all you read on the web is correct (often history is too simplified) - 1577 is actually the earliest record of a specific Tynwald which mentions the chapel though as it is very likely Tynwald is actually a pre-Norse site it is almost certain that the early Christian church would have erected a chapel there from earliest days.
However all that has now gone - the new church is itself very interesting, as I said there is pub just across the road and a couple more down the road into Foxdale
