Hi--I've recently been told that some American Looneys--the surname, not the noun:-)--have had some interesting DNA results. It seems that their DNA matches that of Sephardic Jews from Spain. The theory is that the Jewish Lunas fled Spain during the time of the Inquisition, moving to the relatively isolated Isle of Man to escape persecution. I'd be very interested in any information, speculation, or rip-roaring arguments, confirming or denying:-) My ancestor was Robert Looney, b. abt. 1690 from Ballagilley (sp.?)
