I have looked as some of my old notes on Moores. The 1540 Computus names a "Johanne A. Moore" as tenant of land of 33s 4d rent - is this meant to be John or Joan? Although there is then a large gap in Abbeylands records, the Moores also held other lands in Malew and Castletown. From research in the Rent Rolls many of these were acquired by 'John Mores', one of the Lord's soldiers, around 1560. This John died abt. 1611 and his eldest son Thomas succeeded to the main holdings. Thomas married Alice Cross but died without issue 1629. His brother Charles predeceased him in 1624, having married twice. Charles's son Thomas was the heir, although Charles had attempted to divert the lands of his brother Thomas to his daughter Mary (by the first wife). Mary Langley sued Thomas Moore of Ballasalla in 1648 for detaining half Billown for 25 years
