In his book on Manx Surnames, A W Moore tells under Bridson that: "Another form of this name (Bridson) (is),MAELBRIDGE,....and in the Isle of Man we find it on the Runic Stone in Kirk Michael" a translation of the runes reads:MAELBRIG, the son of Athcaus, the smith, raised this cross". It is still there along with others, now inside the church for preservation. The probable date is 1050c.
