Too many harsh words - not necessary!

Come come now. If you want info. quick for a good reason, you go for it. And this lady learned about Rootsweb as a result.

Names change. They get Anglicised, or whatever. Especially around the early 1900s. I was looking for a German name, and could not find it anywhere, on any board. Then I was told it had been Anglicised, and now I now I know where it went. New Zealand. But I don't know from where it came. But it is a German name, and it passed through the Isle of Man. That is for sure.

I wonder what the Manx Genealogist of 100 years hence will do? You just have to look at the phone book now, and it doesn't take a great deal of brains to notice that the selection of names is much different for that of only 50 years ago, when the thin little book was full of Cs, Ks and Qs, and little else. Now you can't pronounce many of them.

Bottom line is, if you are serious about looking, you will look anywhere.
