I have in fact been to the Scalf site. I am certain that the "Scalf" families are not related to the Scarff's. I have found some info on Scarff's dating back to the 1500's but there is a huge gap up to the mid 1600's. These people really did seem to get around though. The name does not change it's spelling much until my ancestors made it to Canada and the U.S. at which time various agencies ie. immigration/passenger records etc. added an "h" and thus spelled it "Scharf". I do appreciate your reply for every bit of information is a step in the right direction.
