Hello
I have just received a photocopy of a letter dated 30 March 1925 from the Royal National Life-Boat Institution, Douglas Branch which states:
To whom it may concern
Mr R J McLeavey has been employed by the Douglas Branch of the Institution as Caretaker of the Life-Boat House during the last six years........had it not been for the new Life-Boat being run by motor power and that it had to be in the charge of an experienced mechanic he would have no doubt continued with us.
Richard James McLeavey was my great grandad, the letter praises his services and was intended to be used as a reference for future employers. Can anyone please shed more light on this subject?
Thanks Karen
