Re: Cannon/Cannan/Munn - Lonan
In Response To: Re: Cannon/Cannan/Munn - Lonan ()

Thanks to everyone for responding and the pointers you've given. I'll need to do more research on my side before I can make sense of where 'my Cannons' fit in (also querying Robert Cannon b.1800 possibly son of Charles Cannon b.1763, both of Lonan).

Francis, I took up Tim Davis' suggestion and searched on Cannon and have copied below a response you gave someone in 1998 which might be useful information for other people who come across the word 'Relative' when searching for a birth/baptism on the IGI. At least I now know what the record I found is.

Francis' response to an IGI query:
Relative indicate information supplied by family historians that is not necessarily derived from the parish registers. To be honest much of this information is of dubious accuracy - it generally indicates in Manx records that you have struck a relative of one of the well known Manx mormon church leaders - George Quayle Cannon was one of these - actually born in Liverpool to George Cannon who was once a privateer based in Peel - John Taylor who missioned the IoM and later became 3rd president of the Mormon church married his aunt and the Cannons became significant players in early Mormon history - see my pages www.ee.surrey.ac.uk/Contrib/manx/mormon.htm and links off this for addional info.

Back to me:
PS Who was Angus Munn? Maybe when I search the other references given in this thread I'll find something...
