Re: Great Great Great Grandparents

The sealings for the dead are linked to the Millennial background of LDS - as only the baptised could be saved then obviously previous dead couldnt on that logic hence they could be baptised by surrogates but you needed their names, also I blieve (being a gentile) that entry to Temple Rites required some family tree - as earlier records were usually defficient some were invented based on family memories or in many cases what should have been - these records some of which were possibly accurate but most (in my opinion) wernt were then transcribed and entered alongside the transcription of the Parish registers (which as I think Brian Lawson pointed out are actually a 4th order transcription - parish registers copied in 1910, copy sent to Rolls Office, copies transcrobed into all Island 'baptismal/birth' register to make for for late start of civil registry, this all Island list then transcribed by LDS/Mormons into IGI! (what is remarkable to me is the relatively few errors - some suggest 5 to 10%) - non_manx names are the most likely ones to encounter errors

Patron submitted info is just that - anyone (and having seen entries like Jo Bridson son of John Bridson and Mrs John Bridson !) as well as whole family trees based on misreading info then I would generally completely disregard this info as no sanity checks are done on entry.

What is really missing is to be able to pull out only those IGI entries based on Rolls Office supplied data as this can be verified by referring to micofilms of the actual parish regs (not just to microfilms of the 1911 Rolls Office transcription)
