Re: Great Great Great Grandparents

A "Sealing for the Dead". As far as I can tell there are just 3 Indivdual Records for Thomas Craine 21 Sep 1823 all giving more or less the same information:

Individual Record Thomas CRAINE
Birth: 21 Sep 1823 Bradden, Isle Of Man, England
Parents: Robert CRAINE Elizabeth MACNEWIN
Film Number: 449740 Reference Number: 83243

Individual Record Thos CRAINE
Christening: 21 Sep 1823 Braddan, Isle Of Man, England
Parents: Robt CRAINE Elizth MAC NEWIN
Batch number: 7209425 Source Call No.0820292 Sheet:38

and the previous listed record noted as a "Sealing for the Dead". After following the cryptic links provided by the IGI Site the other two are identified as "Endowment for the Dead" and a "Patron Sheet". In the past I have gone to the trouble of going to my local Family History Center and ordering a microfilm of the listed source document usually to find very little, if any, additional information.

Also curious about the IGI data is that it almost always lists the Christening date and the birth date as the same. I suspect the Christening date is valid because when checked for day of the week the Christening/Baptisim is almost always on a Sunday (unless death occurs soon after the birth). The listed birth date is almost always bogus when checked with later family information like a Grave Stone Inscription or an Obituary.

Can anyone shed more light about the mysterious IGI scribes and their methods?
