1881 & 1891 Census Queries

Has anyone any information on / or can do a “look up” re:

Emma QUIRK (nee Lewis) birth date unknown. Her father was a Robert Lewis, a farmer from Kingsley, Cheshire.

She married a William Charles Roper QUIRK at Kirk Braddan, Isle of Man, on 15 October 1877. He resided, with his family, at the Cumberland Inn, James Street, Douglas.

Although William is shown in the 1881 IOM Census at the Cumberland Inn, she does not appear there.

William died on 7 April 1891 and is shown as buried in the family grave at Braddan Cemetery. His address at the time of his death was still the Cumberland Inn.

At first I thought Emma may have pre-deceased him but it now appears that she applied for “Letters of Administration” after her husband’s death and the application shows her address as Ballakaighen in the Parish of German.

I can find no trace of her after this. She does not appear amongst the names on the headstones of the double “Quirk” grave at Braddan, where William’s name appears.

Apparently there is a Ballakaighen Farm at the Cronk-y-Voddy end of the road leading from the switchback up to the road that goes between the Cronk-y-Voddy straight and the Ramsey Coast Road. This may be the farm in question.

Any info on this lady (and/or sibblings) would be gratefully received.

Thanks

Richard
