I am puzzled over a will I have obtained. It is posthumous, and indicates it was 'declared by word of mouth on the twentyfifth of September, 1799.' It was signed by the witnesses on tenth October, 1799. So far, so good. Then, at the end, it indicates 'At a Chapter Court holden at Douglas on the sixth of June 1799...., Probatum est'
How could a will be proved before it was declared and witnessed? A mistake by my lord bishop?
