In Response To: Re: Kermode/Kneale in Lonan ()

Hi Meg,

Thanks to Frances, you can look at her website for the Laxey in the New World quote. It is p. 14, under "Manx Received Preference in Laxey Cemetery." I think Ida Cowley was the wife of Will (a son of John and Jane Kneale), and Martha was their daughter. There is a picture of John and Jane Cowley on p. 19 of the booklet; of Will, Ida, and Martha Cowley on p. 32 (along with an article by Martha Cowley Evans).

I haven't been in contact with the Wisconsin Manx group for several years. We used to go to the Laxey picnic with my father-in-law, and haven't been in touch, really, since he died. But I think you might contact Mae Reese. She is a Kelly descendant, but she would probably know a Cowley or Kermode contact.

I don't have Mae's address, but try C/O Pamela Kelly, 2001 S. Thompson Dr., Madison, WI 53716.

There is only one name in the listing of burials at Laxey cemetery who might be a Kermode, and that is "Thomas Kennod", 16 years, died (or buried) Feb. 16, 1873.

Good luck.
