Mr Cannell who posted on this board regarding `The dolly` is correct (his forbears came fromthe next farm--ballacooily). According to J. J. Kneens `Place names of the IOM` the Dollagh means black lake as this area was very wet-infact a lake. According to Kneen it has been called Duflock in 1376, Dowlock in 1643,and Dollagh from 1703 to present. The dolly is a triangle of grass about 0.25 of an acre, which is still common ground today. The Dolly was part of the Dollagh and is still a cluster of a few houses. It was the site of the Parish Chuch of St. Mary- no longer there and Ballaugh fair was held on the Festival of the Assumption of the virgin Mary. The Dollagh is farmed today by Mr Edgar Cowin.
