Hi, I don't think I can be of much help. But, I'd like to tell you some information which I just received. Someone e-mailed me today that the Corkhill surname originated in the Isle of Man. The reason I am interested in this is because the maiden name of my great-grandmother was Mary Elizabeth Corkhill. She was one of the orphans shipped out of Great Britain during the late 1800's. Her ship left Liverpool, England, and sailed to Nova Scotia. One of the other orphans on the ship was a boy named, John Stanley Lewis. They met on the ship. When they reached the right age, they married in Nova Scotia. After their first child was born, they moved to Stoneham, Massachusetts, USA, and they had a total of 13 children. Mr. Lewis started and ran an independent newspaper there for many years.

We thought we could never trace their backgrounds. But, with the help of the Internet, we might be able to track down at least a little of the family information. Plus, I also found out today that there is a web site where a data base is being formed listing ALL orphans shipped out of Great Britain and landing in Canada. The group forming the data base is in Canada.

Thank you for listening. My great-grandparents were probably born around 1860.
