The Boyde Surname on the Isle of Man
Following an earlier posting concerning the origins of the Boyde Surname on the Isle of Man, I followed up with an attempt to test the theory that a large number of Boydes on the Island had in fact descended from earlier Manx Surnames that had been recorded on the Island for over a period of 500 years.
One of those early Surnames was “Boddaugh”, predominant in the Western Parishes of German, Michael and Ballaugh during the period 1600 to 1800.
I used the 1841 Census of the Parish of Ballaugh as a basis in an attempt to trace the Boydes alive at that time back to a Boddaugh Surname of an earlier generation.
