Re: Richard Wakefield Gelling.
In Response To: Re: Richard Wakefield Gelling. ()

Adding to this, William Gelling, a Stonemason, (1817-1873) married Jane Kissack (abt 1820-1890) 13 Jun 1840 Braddan. 11 children, of which Edward Charles was #6. There were 8 daughters (one died early), 3 sons, lots of descendants. .

I have a note that the parents of William aren't 100% certain but fit well to be William Gelling born at Ballacaine Braddan (1794- 1874 d Onchan) and Margaret Quine (1793-bef 1871)., married 2 Nov 1816 Braddan. They had 9 children, William the eldest. Many descendants.

Again not 100% certain but likely William is son of John Gelling, Sumner, (1767-1837 of Ballacaine Braddan) and Isabella Cavendish (b 1766 Liverpool surname Corjeage - 1856), married 18 Nov 1788 Braddan. They had 11 children, John was #2 child, #1 son.

This John is son of John Gelling of Ballacaine, born 1741 Marown, died 1822 Braddan.and his wife Margaret Caroon (1742/43 - 1781). They married 28 Feb 1767 Braddan.. 10 children, John was the eldest.

One more generation puts this John as eldest son after 3 daughters of John Gelling (1705-1784) and Ann Fayle, married likely Marown abt 1732, 8 children. This links into the Ballamillaghyn family of Braddan. John b 1705 was the illegitimate (but very much accepted) son of John Gelling (1669/70-1732/33) of Ballamillagyn and Ann Kneale (d 1713/14). Previous generation is William Gelling died 1683 Ballamillaghyn Braddan and Joney Christian.died 1688.

Several descendants of the Ballamillaghyn Gellings participate on this board and a lot has been written about them here. Though I have the same surname, I come from a different and much smaller group from Onchan and Lonan.
