John QUINE, not John Cowin

Hi Aaron

I found your tree on Ancestry and also trawled through several other trees to see if I could pick up any clues.

I’ve pasted in the census information for John and his Irish wife Sarah nee Dougherty / Dockry / Docksy with their expanding family between 1851 and 1881. (Some of the pasting has turned out badly but I'll leave it in.)

Then I found the golden nugget ---- the image of the 1835 (27 Oct) Quebec marriage of John and Sarah, written in French, giving the names of their parents.

My notes :

Marriage of John Coyne and Sarah Dockry in Quebec in 1835, written in French ---link to image: (sorry, I’ve had to remove the link as this forum wouldn’t accept it)

This shows that John Coyne was the eldest son of Patrick Coyne and Jane Kane.

If you put the name John / no surname into Family Search, father Patrick / no surname, mother Jane Cain, you get John QUINE which makes much more sense than John Cowin for conversion into Coyne.

If you search Ancestry public trees using just “Quine b 1807 plus/minus 10 years, father Patrick, mother Jane Caine”, you get some trees of descendants of the siblings of your John b 1802 --- they look as though they’ll be an interesting family to research.

I'll try and send the missing links to you via the Ancestry message service.
