Vixen Ship Sailed to Aus from IOM on the Vixen.(potentially with his brother called Harry) according to the book 'Here is the news' an illustrated Manx History. Pg. 98. Took 92 days and dropped anchor at Melbourne, May 3rd. She averaged 170 miles per day, a remarkable performance for a vessel of this size. Was flying the Manx flag. On arrival they headed for the gold fields.
Ten years afterwards 27 of them returned to Peel, making a fine passage home. The Vixen then became a fishing boat. On the day after Good Friday, 1864, she was in the harbour at Peel, ready to start, and the crew were in the old Royal Oak Hotel making merry. A gale was blowing. In spite of the storm Skipper Sansbury, at high water, insisted on starting, Out the Vixen went, and that was the last seen of her. She foundered, with all hands, near the Calf of Man. Thus, after safely sailing as it were round the globe, she found a grave close at home.
