the 1704 Act of settlement required that there was a penalty of twice the value of land being transferred - half to the wronged party and half to the Lord (I think there was also an similar scheme pre1704 to enforce such agreed transfers).
The church had no part to play in land transfers tho such deeds of settlement which had been attested could be used as substitutes for a will in the church courts . The fees payable for wills etc were fixed by Acts of Tynwald.
