My grandfather was William Gill of Maughold, son of James Gill, son of Thomas Gill. There do not appear to be any Gills prior to Thomas, so did they change their name from, say, Killey? Any help would be appreciated. Distaff sides were Kinrade (James) and Cringal (Thomas).
