Frances need your help looking for the parents of James Edward Callister.
FACTS
Died June 1938, age given 71 , in Oldham, Lancashire.(Born 1866/7)
Married 8/10/1892 age 26,(Born 1865/6) Stonewaller, Father William Callister, Fisherman.
James' only son named Alfred.
1891 Census Royton, Oldham, age 25 (born 1865/6) Stonewaller/Mason b Laxey, IOM (He is listed as James Ecallester , but clearly James E Callister on original writing.)
1891 Census , same address Alfred Callister age 19 (b 1871/2) b Ramsey, IOM.
1894/10/25 Marriage Alfred Callister , St Barnabas Church, Douglas age 24 (b 1870/1) Father William Callister a Labourer.
1881 Census James could be in Braddan aged 16 , born Lonan with the Cowin Family.
1881 Census, cannot find Alfred , only 7 in the whole of the UK Census , and age jumps from 4 to 12 , and none b Ramsey.
1871 Census cannot find either for sure.
On the IGI there is no birth for an Alfred Callister (And variations) with father William from 1865 to 1875. In fact only one birth totally in 1869 in Rushen with father Edward.
POSSIBLITY - Only one !!
The only James Edward Callister I can find is is Ch 20/11/1864 to William and Jane Kermeen of Baldooin, Lonan as Collister.
On the 1871 census they are now living in Ramsey (as Callisters) :
William Head 45 Farm Lab b Lonan
Jane Wife 42 b Maughold
William Son 12 b Lonan
Thomas Son 8 b Lonan
Edward Son 6 b Lonan
Robert Son 0 b Ramsey
Son William 12 is actually stepson from Jane's first marriage to John Collister. Thomas is John Thomas and Edward James Edward.
I cannot find any of this family in 1881 for sure , possibly James Edward , but none of the others , and no apparent burials 1871-1881.
However the 1891 Census in Oldham with James E born Lonan and Alfred born Ramsey matches this Edward (J.E.) born Lonan and Robert born Ramsey.
We know they used second names , so is Robert now Alfred ?
On 3 census reports and one marriage Alfred's year of birth is given as 1868/69/70 and 1872. On the 1911 Census James Edward's name is given as John and YOB 1867.On the 1911 Census Alfred's son Alfred Edward is shown as Edward.
Both James and Alfred called their only son's Alfred.
Frances I know you mentioned there were missing Baptisms from the earlier 1800's, have you heard of missing ones from Ramsey circa 1870 ? Do you know of another way to check for Robert or Alfred ?
