I'm surprised that the registry didn't offer you a copy of his burial record instead of a cert for that date (they used to do so). Compulsory civil registration for IOM deaths started in 1878, but new parish register forms were issued in the late 1840s which had more details than previously. You can see the parish registers on LDS film if you don't want to pay the registry for a photocopy.
