Re: Christian family
In Response To: Re: Christian family ()

Hi. In that marriage scan URL I put on an early reply, Elizabeth's residence was Eary Mooar (German par reg.). It looks as though Elizabeth did marry at aged only 16, but said that she was of full age.

This is Findmypast's transcript of the 1871 census - note Eary again:

Eary Village, German, Isle of Man
Household Members
First name(s) / Last name / Relationship / Marital status / Gender / Age / Birth year / Occupation / Birth place
John Christian Head - Male 24 1847 - Isle of Man, Isle of Man
Elizabeth Christian Wife - Female 18 1853 - Isle of Man, Isle of Man
Evan Christian Son - Male 1 1870 - Isle of Man, Isle of Man
Thomas Jones Boarder - Male 26 1845 - Wales
John Jones Boarder - Male 22 1849 - Wales
[Archive reference RG10; Piece number 5771; Folio 87; Page 10]

The image shows John and son Evan born German, and Elizabeth b.Patrick.
John was a farmer of 165 acres.
Later he gave his place of birth as Marown.

This looks like his family in 1851 (at his marriage his father was named as James Christian):

Cottage Ballingan, Marown, Isle of Man
Household Members
James Christian Head Married Male 26 1825 Ag Lab Isle of Man, Isle of Man
Jane Christian Wife Married Female 28 1823 - Isle of Man, Isle of Man
John Christian Son - Male 5 1846 Scholar Isle of Man, Isle of Man
Elizabeth Christian Daughter - Female 3 1848 Scholar Isle of Man, Isle of Man
Jane Christian Daughter - Female 2 1849 - Isle of Man, Isle of Man
Isabella Christian Daughter - Female 0 1851 - Isle of Man, Isle of Man.
[Archive reference HO107, Piece number 2523, Folio 278, Page 4]

The image has James born German, Jane b.Arbory, and the children b.Marown.

I think it is likely that John Christian was born and married in Marown. This is the link to his marriage entry to Jane Quayle, also suggested by Frances, and backed up by the census entries:

I can't see a bapt for Elizabeth Faragher c.1853, daur of Philip Faragher, farmer (from marriage entry). She consistently gave her birthplace as Patrick.

I think this is her family in the 1861 census:
Lergymoor, Patrick, Isle of Man
Household Members
Philip Faragher Head Married Male 56 1805 Farmer Of 14 Acres Isle of Man, Isle of Man
Jane Faragher Wife Married Female 34 1827 Farmers Wife Isle of Man, Isle of Man
