I’ve done a bit of digging and may have come up with the right family, but it all needs checking thoroughly.

I believe that your Manx ancestor who emigrated to Ontario was Thomas Costain b 1845, son of John Costain, cartwright, and Ann Duke. This Thomas added the middle name Darcy in later life (according to an IGI transcription of his death registration)

I suspect that Thomas’s mother died in Douglas IOM in 1853 (buried in Arbory) and that widower John Costain emigrated to Canada with his children shortly afterwards.

I’ve copied some entries from the IGI to support this theory.
