Hi Bill
Sometimes people post trees that are wrong , have seen stacks of them.
On the IOM 1841 Census , there are 156 John Cains and 19 Charles.Cains.
Charles was fairly rare name on the IOM at that time - not so John or William !!
The Manx people were very good at naming children after grandparents - but not always. They also added family surnames as second names frequently.
I can see no evidence of Charles and his wife Jane doing this with their children in Canada.
Do you know Jane's maiden name/
Have you obtained any Baptism records from Canada - I am not sure when Canada started Civil Registrations.
For example when I started researching my wife's Manx family, we started with her grandfather's marriage in Sydney , 1916 , of Edward Bruce Clucas , aged 26, born Santon, Isle of Man.
It gave his father as George William Clucas (b 1854 Patrick) and mother Margaret Anne Qualtrough.
We then established that George's father was William Clucas (b 1820 Malew) and mother Ann Margaret Bruce.
Edward Bruce Clucas' had a brother called Harold Qualtrough Clucas (b 1900)
So we had two mother's surnames used.
I will have a look at your line - it still could be right but it is good to have some formal proof.
Cheers
David Dwyer
Happy Australia Day to all !!
