marr contracts are found either by following link from term marriage contract in subject catalogue or by following property pages where there is a link per parish to them
this m/c I only did last night so not on CD - the Alice Lewin we found a few days ago - the main question now is to find her husb Robert Lewin among the very many putative Robert Lewins (but as Robt s/o Margt Christian was her brother not likely to be her husband) - one guide is that at marriage both were of Braddan parish which probably removes the Onchan Lewin families and the Douglas Lewins as residence in Douglas usually noted but not 100%;
.
My own suggestion was that the Robert came from neighbouring Creg-y-cown family who were friendly enough to swop land and share equally - if so then I can supply further info on this creg-y-cowin Lewin family as they acquired land via a unredeemed mortgage - old bra Mort #21 - [torn in 2 pieces with some loss]dated 9 Apr 1708;recites that Wm Cowin(Creg-e-Cowin) mortgaged part of qtrland of Creg-e-Cowin of []s + 7d single rent wch mortgage now held by John Lewin and the right of redemption now falling to me Tho Cowin + wife Alice als Caine but are unable to redeem same do now for 21s extend mortgage my father gave for a further 5 years to sd John Lewin + son Tho Lewin ; Witt [lost along tear] - the original mort referred to here is old mort #18 but that is in fragments and not produceable by library staff - however there is a phrase mostly lost at top of #21 which mentions Renshant in Malew where possibly John Lewin came from
