Re: Captain Robert Clucas
In Response To: Re: Captain Robert Clucas ()

Hi David,
Robert Clucas and Catherine O'Brien are my great great great grandparents.
I have data about the 'Adam Lodge', but am a little vague about the details relating to the 'Gazelle'. Any data that you can send me about that sinking would be appreciated.
The only child of the above two was indeed Margaret Ann Lucas (the 'C' has been dropped). She and Thomas McGuigan in fact had nine children.

John Joseph 1870 - 1953
Kathleen Jane 1871 - 1957
Laughlin Robert 1873 - 1964
James 1875 - 1960
Robertha 1877 - 1954
Francis Patrick ? - 1954
Veronica May ? - 1957
Edward Thomas 1885 - 1974
Catherine A. 1888 - 1890

Robertha is my great grandmother.

Somewhere along the line a fellow researcher has spoken about a Captain Robert Clucas, which was a bit of a mystery to me as I failed to make such a person fit in my tree. Not only that, he stated that the Captain was lost at sea, and yet I could not find any reference to a Captain Robert Clucas being lost at sea. Have you found one?

But, when I place our Robert Clucas from the Isle of Man into the frame it seems to fit perfectly, so I am happy that I am related to Robert Clucas the steward rather than Captain Robert Clucas who is unsubstantiated. Also it should be noted that the widow Catherine (nee O'Brien) of steward Robert Clucas remarried in 1854 to James Hooper. If we want to splice in the other Robert Clucas who supposedly died in 1859, then the fit is rather poor.

Many thanks David for your continued interest in our little puzzle.
fondest regards
Barry
