Hi Barry
From my research, both the Scots and the Manx followed a pattern of naming their children ( Well a large percentage of them , but not all), the first son after the father's father , second after mother's father , third after father , the first daughter after mother's mother , second daughter after father's mother , third daughter after mother , then if more than three of each , they would be named after other family members.
Therefore Thomas Clucas called first son 1802 William , and second daughter 1828 Margaret....................sorry got that incorrect , need to have another look
Cheers
David
