Thank you for such a rapid response. I will look at the imuseum website as you suggest, and I didn't know about Manx BMD before I found this site either. Interesting that John Brennan was a blacksmith as that was the profession given for John Purcell, father to Annie, who later gave her maiden surname as Brannan. She also gives two different places of birth on censuses - IoM and Birkenhead. I have always known that we had Manx connections but because my father died before I was born I never had the chance of conversation with him. His mother and sister emigrated so I was never close to them either. I will keep 'digging' and see what I come up with. You've certainly given me new sources of information anyway. Thank you.
