Thanks very much Donna,
This all started because I found a James Oliver Caine, son to John James Caine [son of William and Eleanor] and Harriet Mylchreest. He was born 1897 and bapt Liverpool 1899.
I have no idea why but I decided to search on J O because it was a slightly unusual combination of Christian names in the Caine family.
Which was why I thought maybe the J O on the island may have a family connection.
I think the story with the Manx version was that he was born / bapt 1876 to James and Esther.
Married Clara Gill 1894 [she bapt 1877 to Alexander Gill builder who J O used to work for]
I don't know anything about Clara's death but it seems to be in Bootle in 1925.
He then seems to have married Marie Dougan in 1927 at Birkenhead [Q1 8a 830].
Then comes one of those dangerous assumptions where J O seems to have died at Port Erin 1940 age 65 and Marie 1958 age 57.
A son of J O and Clara was another J O born c 1899 in Onchan. But I haven't found anything else about him.
One other thing I found in the newspapers was the Onchan Secondary School War Memorial seems to have mention of J O C [presuming WW1 but that requires research].
A bit more to look at then.
Thanks again for your help - very useful !!!
