Thanks Lionel - I think it was her maiden name - my grandmother on the IOM used to mention her so I think she was born in the 1890 -1925 range & definitely Mary. I don't think she was married. I never saw her surname written down so could be one of those spellings like Ralph which can be proounced Ralf or Raife.
