in those days shares could be bearer shares (ie if you had them in your hand they were yours + a coupon was exchanged for the dividend, otherwise (and I suspect this was the case) a manual register was kept upto date by the company but whether this has survived I don't know - as the company is still trading any such is likely to still be with them.
