Donna's posting of the 1851 census for John & Margaret Quilliam lists two sons, Henry, 9, and James, 11.
It appears that both of the brothers moved to the U.S. Here are the 1880 Dakota Co., MN. census records for the families of a Henry & Margaret Quilliam and a James & Mary A. Quilliam and the 1885 Minnesota State census for Henry & Maggie Quilliam.

In your posting, you list your great-great- grandfather's name as James Henry Quilliam, but his newspaper obituary, below, lists his name as William Henry Quilliam. His date of birth is wrong in the newspaper obituary (transcription error?), but his obituary listed on the Find-A-Grave website has the right birth date. The website, also, has the burial info and obituary for his son, Frank L. Quilliam.

I've added the newspaper info on the birth of Frank L. Quilliam's last child and the obit for his wife who died a few weeks after giving birth in 1920 in Slope County, North Dakota.

Frank L. Quilliam
Again death has come into our community and has taken one of our best, most honored and respected residents. Frank L. Quilliam passed to the beyond at the Miles City Hospital last Friday evening. He had been ill for some time but did not decide to go to the hospital for treatment until Thursday, March 3rd. The following Monday he was operated upon and was found to be suffering with cancer of the stomach with no hope for recovery. His children, Margaret, Paul and Pearl were called to his bed side as were also his brothers, Harry and Dick.
Everything that loving hands could do was done but he passed away.
Seldom do we meet a finer character than Frank Quilliam; so quiet, unassuming, loyal and true. Since the death of his wife, seven years ago trouble shave come to him thick and fast but he seldom murmured, showing his abiding faith in his Heavenly Father. He was always ready to work for the betterment of the community. For many years he was president of the school board and
was treasurer and a trustee of the Mound church, of which he and his wife became members in 1918. Every advantage he could possible give his motherless children was given them. He worked unceasingly for them and spared nothing.
The deceased was born February 21, 1876 in Golden Gate, San Francisco, California being 51 years, 18 days old at the time of his death. His parents lived there for several years and then moved to the Isle of Man, the birthplace of his father. From there the family went to Castle Rock, Minnesota where he spent most of his life. He was married on December 4th, 1927 to Katherine Maughn, of Morris, Minnesota, near which place he and his brother, Fred worked a farm for 15 years in partnership. He then moved to Spooner, Wisconsin, staying there three
years. Coming to North Dakota in 1918, he purchased his fathers homestead, at which place he was living at the time of his death.
He leaves to mourn his death four children, Margaret, Paul, Pearl and Mona Bell; two sisters, Mr. O. F. Pearl, of Snohomish, Washington, and Mrs. Nina Latin of Faribault, Minnesota; three brothers, Fred, Harry and Dick, of Mound; a niece, Mrs. Charles Ferck, of Mound; and a number of relatives and a host of friends. He had no enemies.
The funeral, conducted by Rev. E. H. H. Holman, pastor of the Congregational church of Marmarth, was held at the Mound church, Monday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock. Rev. Holman's beautiful sermon seemed especially fitting to the occasion. The deceased was laid to rest in the Mound cemetery under a blanket of flowers.
Those who attended the funeral were: Mrs. Pearl, of Snohomish, Mrs. Hall, a sister-in-law, from Minn. And M. R. Maughn, a brother-in-law also from Minnesota.

Obituary
The community was greatly grieved to learn of the death of Mrs. Frank Quilliam at Miles City early Thursday morning of last week. Dr. Ewbank took her there Tuesday evening where she underwent an operation for peritonitis. Her husband was with her when the end came, and the remains were brought to Marmarth Thursday evening. The funeral services were held from the Mound church Saturday, Rev. Dordal of Rhame conducting the services.
Mrs. Maughn, of Morris, Minn., mother of Mrs. Quilliam, was here for the funeral and plans to stay for a few weeks. Katherine Maughn was born in Morris, Minn., in 1884, and was married there to Frank Quilliam. They made their home in Wisconsin until coming here two years ago. She leaves to mourn her loss her parents, two brothers, a sister, her husband and four children, the youngest but two weeks old, besides a number of other relatives and a host of friends.
The floral offerings were many and beautiful. We extend our sympathy to the bereaved family.

The obit for William Henry Quilliam mentions his brother, James Quilliam, who was living in Spokane, Washington. There is a death record for a James Quilliam who died 5 June 1923 in Spokane, Washington, at the age of 83.
I've found a few more records for some of their children that might be of interest to you. You can contact me off of the board and I'll send you what I've found.
