Hello again.
I am still trying to prove that Margaret Jane Bridson who married John Kennaugh in 1852 is the daughter of William Bridson and Eleanor Radcliffe. If we look at my earlier threads there is much that leads us to believe that she is William and Eleanor’s daughter (born about 1825); however, no trace can be found of her birth (Malew is most likely). Census information for 1841 includes MJB aged 15 in this family. In 1851 she is with her widower brother prior to marrying in 1852.
I obtained the Will for her father, William Bridson, who died in 1868 (after his wife died in 1863, no will discovered for Eleanor). William B. does not name his daughter in the will, but he does name his son-in-law, John Kennaugh. William is at Silverburn at the time of his death.
I also obtained the Will of John Kennaugh. All their children (that I can prove) are named therein. He mentions his wife only as Margaret Jane Kennaugh, no reference to “Bridson”.
The reference to their marriage also does not indicate any Radcliffe connection. Can you remind me as to how I obtain a copy of this Marriage Certificate?
My only other options I believe are to acquire a copy of the will of Samuel Radcliffe (1831, Malew) who might name his granddaughter Margaret Jane Bridson. Hopefully this should also reference his daughter Eleanor as well. Similarly John Bridson might also name his granddaughter MJB (1832, Malew).
I am 99% sure this is the right family for MJB. However, I feel that I need to prove it beyond reasonable doubt. Do you have suggestions as to anything else I should consider looking for?
