I have a feeling this may have been covered somewhere but I haven't managed to find it.
Can anyone tell me please the 'usual' order of naming children and in which years?
Was it normally 1st son named after the father and second son after wife's father?
[I do understand that not all families followed this route but I'm getting nowhere with my Kewley family].
Mostly my lot seemed to have just plucked the names out of thin air until my grandfather in 1864 who named 1st daughter after his wife and first son after himself [only had 4 offspring 3 girls and 1 son]
IF I am on the right track I have Wm Kewley who named his 5th son Wm.
Wm's 4th son was Stephen who didn't name any of his sons after himself.
Matthias, again, didn't name any of his sons after himself but his last son was named James which may be a form of Matthias [maybe?]
Any suggestions will be looked into thanks for any help.
Philip Kewley married Catharine Kelly and I am trying to find who her father was to see if there are any more clues available. They were married Onchan 1785.
