Re: Inheritance question, 1700s

Frances and John,

Thank you both for your input. I'm not sure if we are reaching clarity, or if the plot is thickening!

You both are saying that Thomas Skillicorn might be a husband of Gilbert Callin's sister? Could be, I suppose. I had kind of picked him out to be the son of Gilbert Skillicorn, and hence a son of Elizabeth Ceiggeen.

Frances, the little word "supv WITH the child at age" does change things a bit, doesn't it? Sorry I didn't catch that important detail.

I agree that apparently all of Joney Callin's siblings died before 1700, although it would be nice to be able to confirm William's death. As you say, if William is the son of a second wife for Gilbert Callin, that might not affect Joney's inheritance of the Ballaraugh land. Isabel Callin's will does mention a second son, but doesn't name him, so we can't be sure if it is William or not.

John, Question: How are you estimating the age of Thomas Skillicorn, son of Gilbert? I think at one time in the past I was "guessing" his birth by about 1685, but I realize all I know of him is his marriage to Margaret Kewley Feb 1709, and his decree in 1717.

Again, thank you both for your thoughtful input. Much appreciated.

Lois
