Skillicorn/Quilleash--Inheritance question, 1700s

Hi, Frances,

I am not sure what summaries you are referring to? I have looked at the will summaries and the deed summaries. Is there more?

I think the John Skillicorn involved in the transactions you are quoting is John, Jr of Ballaragh (husband of Katherine Skillicorn). Perhaps the SSS May 1729 deed is mis-written and the "my father" refers to John, Sr of Ballaragh (husband of Joney Kerrush and later Isabel Christian) rather than to William Quilleash's father Philip.

Philip Quilleash (husband of Eleanor Cowin) is, I believe, the son of James Quilleash and Joney Killey. Philip's siblings, I believe, are Philip, Margaret who married Thomas Skillicorn of Skinscoe; William who seems not to have left descendants (did he marry?); Isabel who married John Skillicorn (of Baldrine?)

I get into trouble when I look at the will of William Quilleash, another son of James Quilleash and Joney Killey: 1710-3 E w QUILEASH William names Bro's ch - phil(jnr),james, ellinor, isable, margt;names alice skillicorn, tom skillicorn(baldrine, 3 sons),john skillicorn(+2 daus);wm quillieash exor [full]

A little analysis of this will:
(1) I don't identify Alice Skillcorn anywhere amongst these early Skillicorn families.
(2) Thomas Skillicorn, who married Margaret Quilleash, did have three sons with Margaret: John, Philip, and Danold. He was at Skinscoe. Don't know why he was called of Baldrine.
(3) John Skillicorn who married Isabel Colleish/Quilleash did have two daughters--Isabel (who did not marry) and Margaret (married John Kewley). He also had a son Thomas who married Margaret Clark and was called "of the mountains"

A further confusion, caused by the SSS 1729 deed is that it refers to lands lying in Skinscoe. I think this actually refers to Ballaragh, which was part of the Skinscoe abbeylands?

(I hope there are some Quilleash researchers who can confirm or correct my thinking!)
